contemporary orchestral // epic post-rock

Known for his truly unique voice and the use of a cello bow on guitar, Jónsi Birgisson as a frontman of Sigur Rós is no less than a post-rock icon in the music world. The comparison of his solo effort to the ethereal sound of Sigur Rós is unavoidable. While Go (2010) carries those familiar enigmatic soundscapes and hypnotic arrangements, Jónsi takes a somewhat joyfully naïve approach for his solo work. “Go Do”, the first single and album opener, evolves from layered vocal textures and graceful flutes to pulsing percussion. Go ranges from soaring, fast tempo compositions to melodramatic post-rock arrangements. It’s just too good not to mention.

Powerful and vibrant orchestration.

Absolutely stunning album; it’s been my soundtrack for the past two weeks.

A note: at Aurgasm we like to hold off on posting until you actually have an ability to *buy* the record. So…. you’re welcome. :)

I had been anticipating his album for SOOO long, and it’s absolutely amazing.
I just watched his performance yesterday at Coachella, and his voice is a thousand times better live. So clear and pure.
    I love it <3

On the strength of this song…I ordered the album from Amazon. Can’t wait to hear it!

I’ve been a Sigur Rós fan since I was in seventh grade, so I was absolutely devastated to hear that they were on hiatus. However, hearing Jónsi’s solo work, I am no longer too heartbroken.

I’ve been listening to this album on repeat, and virtually nothing else, for the last month since it leaked. My real copy is in the mail, as is my ticket to his May 8th show in New York!

  7. Jacqueline :

There is not a bad song on this album. It is exquisite in every sense of the word. There are so many musical references, seemlessly and movingly and effortlessly expressed.

  8. Sarah :

I now have a new obsession…thanks so much!

  9. Suecae :

I’ve liked this album ever since I heard in on NPR Music–it’s a like an upbeat, joyful Sigur Ros. This is the first time I’ve seen this video and I gotta to admit, I was waiting for Jonsi to jump off the window ledge and take flight the whole time.
